What is AltiBake?

AltiBake is a barometer-based altitude baking adjuster for iPhone. It reads the atmospheric pressure from your device's built-in barometer, estimates your altitude, and shows you how to adjust a sea-level recipe (flour, sugar, liquid, leavening, oven temperature, baking time) to bake successfully at your altitude. It also includes a quick reference adjustment table, the boiling point of water at your altitude, and category-specific tips for cakes, quick breads, yeast breads, cookies, pastries, and muffins.

How does AltiBake know my altitude?

Your iPhone has a small barometer chip that measures the atmospheric pressure around you. AltiBake reads that pressure and converts it to an altitude estimate using the standard atmospheric formula. This works entirely on your device — no internet, no GPS, no location lookup.

Does AltiBake use my location or GPS?

No. AltiBake never uses GPS, Wi-Fi geolocation, IP-based geolocation, or any location service. It does not request location permission and you will not see a location prompt. Altitude is derived only from the air pressure measured on your device.

What if my iPhone doesn't have a barometer?

Most iPhones from iPhone 6 onward include a barometer, but a few older models and the iPad simulator do not. If AltiBake detects that your device has no barometer, it lets you enter your altitude manually. All adjustment features then work the same way, just based on the value you typed in instead of a live reading.

Why does barometric pressure matter more than a fixed altitude number?

Standard altitude charts assume "average" air pressure for a given elevation, but real air pressure varies by several percent with weather. A low-pressure system over Denver can make your kitchen behave like a higher elevation; a high-pressure day can make it behave like a lower one. Reading live pressure from your iPhone's barometer is more accurate than a fixed chart, especially on stormy or unusually still days. AltiBake will surface a note when today's pressure is unusual for your altitude.

Which baking categories does AltiBake support?

Cakes, quick breads, yeast breads, cookies, pastries, and muffins. Each category has its own default amounts and a set of category-specific tips (for example, yeast breads rise faster at altitude and may need shorter rise times; cookies tend to spread more and benefit from extra flour and refrigerated dough).

Is AltiBake free? What's the difference between free and Premium?

AltiBake is free to download and use. The free version includes the live altitude and pressure display, the Quick Reference adjustment table for all altitude zones, and one (1) full Recipe Adjustment per calendar day. Premium unlocks unlimited Recipe Adjustments, Saved Recipes (so you can name and re-open adjusted recipes), and the full reference content, including expanded category-specific tips and the boiling-point calculator.

How much is Premium, and is it a subscription?

Premium is a one-time, non-consumable in-app purchase of USD $2.99 (or the local-currency equivalent set by Apple). It is not a subscription — once purchased it grants permanent access to Premium features for the same Apple ID, with no recurring charge.

How do I restore my purchase on a new device or after reinstall?

Sign in to the same Apple ID you used to make the original purchase, install AltiBake, then go to Settings → Restore Purchase inside the App. Apple will reissue access to all Premium features on the new device.

Where are my saved recipes stored? Do they sync across devices?

Saved recipes are stored locally inside AltiBake's protected sandbox on your iPhone, using Apple's SwiftData framework. They are not stored on our servers, in iCloud, or in any cloud service, and they do not sync across devices. If you set up a new iPhone, you will need to re-enter recipes you want to keep.

What data does AltiBake collect about me?

Your saved recipes, app preferences, and most recent pressure and altitude readings stay on your device. We never have access to them. The App sends only anonymous, aggregate usage events through a privacy-focused analytics provider (TelemetryDeck), together with your altitude zone (one of Sea Level, Moderate, High, Very High, Extreme — never the precise number), app version, iOS version, and device model class. We never transmit recipe content, precise altitude or pressure values, or persistent device or advertising identifiers. Full details are in the AltiBake Privacy Policy.

Can I turn off analytics?

Yes. Go to Settings → About inside the App and toggle off anonymous TelemetryDeck events at any time.

What happens to my data if I uninstall AltiBake?

All your saved recipes and preferences live inside the App's sandbox, so uninstalling AltiBake permanently removes them from your device.

Will AltiBake guarantee my baking results?

No. AltiBake's adjustments are general guidelines based on standard high-altitude baking literature; they are not personalised to your specific oven, ingredients, recipe, or technique. Many factors outside the App's scope (oven calibration, ingredient brand and freshness, humidity, pan material, mixing technique) materially affect the outcome, and barometer hardware accuracy varies between devices. Treat the App's adjustments as a strong starting point, then test, observe, and tune to your kitchen.

What languages does AltiBake support?

English and Spanish. The App detects your iPhone's language setting and shows the matching version automatically. You can switch language in iOS Settings.

Can I switch between US (cups, °F) and metric (grams, °C) units?

Yes. Go to Settings inside the App and choose your preferred measurement system. The Quick Reference table, the Recipe Adjuster inputs, and the boiling-point display all update accordingly.

Do the home screen widgets work without opening the app?

Yes. The widgets read directly from your iPhone's barometer hardware and display your current altitude and zone-specific adjustment summary on your home screen. Widget update frequency is controlled by iOS and may be limited based on system conditions such as battery state, low-power mode, and background-activity budgets — so a widget may briefly show a slightly stale value compared to the App. Tap the widget to open AltiBake for a fresh reading.

How do I get a refund?

All refund requests for the Premium in-app purchase are handled by Apple under the App Store refund policy. We are not able to issue App Store refunds directly. To request a refund, visit support.apple.com/HT204084.

How do I contact support?
