AltiBake Privacy Policy
AltiBake is a barometer-based altitude baking adjuster that uses your iPhone's built-in pressure sensor to estimate your altitude and recommend recipe adjustments for high-altitude baking. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App handles, how it is stored, and the limited circumstances in which any information leaves your device.
This Policy is in addition to the privacy practices of Apple Inc., who distributes the App through the App Store.
1. Summary
- AltiBake does not use GPS or your location. Altitude is estimated entirely from atmospheric pressure read by your iPhone's barometer. The App never requests location permission.
- Your recipes stay on your device. Saved recipes, app preferences, and your most recent pressure and altitude readings are stored locally inside the App's sandbox on your iPhone. We do not have access to them, and we cannot retrieve them.
- No account is required. The App does not ask you to sign up, log in, or provide an email address.
- Anonymous usage analytics only. We collect aggregate, non-identifying usage events through a privacy-focused analytics provider (TelemetryDeck). No personal data, no recipe content, and no precise pressure or altitude values are transmitted.
- Purchases are processed by Apple. The optional Premium unlock is handled by Apple's StoreKit. We do not see or store your payment details.
- No advertising. No tracking across apps or websites. No data sale.
2. Information Stored on Your Device
The following information is created by you, or by your iPhone's hardware, within the App and stored only on your iPhone (in the App's protected sandbox):
- Your most recent atmospheric pressure reading (in kPa) from the device barometer, and the altitude estimated from that reading.
- If your device does not have a barometer, the altitude you manually entered.
- Saved recipes (Premium feature): recipe name, baking category, your original ingredient amounts, oven temperature, baking time, optional notes, and the date the recipe was saved.
- App preferences: measurement units (US cups/°F or metric grams/°C), language, appearance mode, and analytics opt-out state.
- Free-tier usage counter (the count of recipe adjustments performed today, used to enforce the once-per-day free limit).
This information is not transmitted to OmniaChron, to any cloud service, or to third parties. Uninstalling the App permanently deletes this information from your device.
3. Information Processed Off-Device
We use a small number of third-party services that are necessary to operate the App. These services receive only the information described below.
3.1 TelemetryDeck (Anonymous Analytics)
We use TelemetryDeck to understand how the App is used in aggregate so we can improve stability and prioritize features. TelemetryDeck is designed to be privacy-preserving and processes events without persistent user identifiers.
What we send:
- Anonymous app usage signals (e.g., "Home viewed", "recipe adjustment computed", "premium unlocked").
- Coarse altitude zone (one of: Sea Level, Moderate, High, Very High, Extreme) so we can understand how the App is used across altitude ranges, never the precise altitude or pressure value.
- App version, iOS version, and device model class (e.g., "iPhone 15 Pro").
- A hashed, salted, non-reversible identifier derived from device characteristics so TelemetryDeck can de-duplicate sessions without identifying you.
What we never send:
- Your precise altitude or pressure readings.
- Your recipe names, ingredient amounts, notes, or any other recipe content.
- Persistent device identifiers, advertising identifiers (IDFA), or location data.
TelemetryDeck's privacy policy is available at telemetrydeck.com/privacy.
3.2 Apple StoreKit (Purchases)
The optional Premium unlock is processed by Apple. We never see or store your payment information; Apple handles the transaction and provides us only with an anonymous receipt confirming purchase status. Apple's privacy practices apply to the purchase: see apple.com/legal/privacy.
4. Location and the Barometer
AltiBake estimates your altitude from the atmospheric pressure measured by your iPhone's built-in barometer (Apple's CMAltimeter framework). Reading the barometer does not require location permission and AltiBake never requests it.
- The App does not read your GPS coordinates.
- The App does not use Wi-Fi, cellular, or IP-based geolocation.
- Pressure-derived altitude is computed entirely on your device using the standard atmospheric formula and is never transmitted off-device.
If your iPhone does not have a barometer, the App lets you enter your altitude manually. That value is also stored only on your device.
5. Children
AltiBake is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
6. Your Choices and Controls
Because your data stays on your device, you control it directly:
- Delete saved recipes: Swipe to delete individual recipes from the Saved Recipes list (Premium).
- Reset the App: Uninstall AltiBake from your iPhone to permanently delete all data created within it.
- Disable analytics: A toggle in Settings → About lets you opt out of anonymous TelemetryDeck events at any time.
- Restore your purchase: Use "Restore Purchase" in Settings if you reinstall the App or set up a new device, provided you are signed in to the same Apple ID.
If you are a resident of a jurisdiction with statutory data rights (for example, the EU/UK under GDPR, Canada under PIPEDA, or California under the CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to request access, correction, deletion, or portability of personal information we hold about you. Because we do not collect or store identifiable personal information from App users on our servers, in most cases there is no such information for us to retrieve. Contact us at the address below if you have a specific request.
7. International Processing
OmniaChron Inc. is based in Canada. Our analytics provider may process anonymous events on servers located in the European Union, Canada, or the United States. By using the App you understand that anonymous, aggregated events may be processed outside your country of residence.
8. Security
We apply reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards. Data on your device is protected by iOS sandboxing and (when enabled) device-level encryption tied to your passcode or Face ID/Touch ID. No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the Effective Date above and, where appropriate, surfaced in the App. Continued use of the App after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
